feet and ankles

so we board the plane, non-stop trip to ATL. i wonder who is going to be my cabin buddy. there is always that fear of the unknown. sort of like when you went away to college and didn't pre-select a roomie, ya just never know what you are going to get. let me go off subject for a minute to discuss my college roomie.
her name was jill. she called me one time before we even met to tell me that she was already bringing everything and not to worry about a fridge, stereo blah blah blah. she was pretty dry but i just chalked it up to her being nervous. when i finally did meet her for the first time i was introduced to her via her mom and she walked right passed me as she mumbled "Hello". she walked with her head down and her eyes peeking through her long dark bangs. she never spoke unless she had to. she went to bed at 9:00 sharp. regardless of what you were doing at 9:00 you found yourself sitting in the dark with no notice. she got up earlier than anyone else in the dorm too. she would be showered, dressed sitting on her bed knitting digesting her breakfast before i even opened my eyes. she made a blanket before 1st semester was over. then she got to work on building an entire christmas village out of sewing those plastic grid thingies (i dont know what they are called). she even made tiny little presents for under the tree. everyone in our dorm felt sorry for me that i had to room with her but i felt sorry for her that she was so... emotionless. she had straight A's, always. Anyway, over christmas break she didn't go home, she stayed in the dorm. When I came back she had cut all of her hair off and she was sitting in the TV lounge smoking cigarettes. no more going to bed at 9:00 but good luck trying to find her! i was now up all night worried about her. she still wouldn't talk to me but now it was like twilight zone! Ugh
Anyway, keep in mind this is a little commuter jet (no first class and two seats on either side of the aisle). I boarded the plane behind a very snooty business man who didn't have the patience to wait while some german rock band tried to board the plane with their guitars strapped to their backs. so i head back toward my row and sure enough. i get to sit next to mr snoots (he was actually very nice).
i put everything under the seat in front of me and strapped in. the flight attendant starts her schpele so i tune her out. she mentions something about feet and ankles and it caught my attention "huh?" then she said it again "please put your carry-on bags completely under the seat in front of you. all items should be kept clear of your feet and ankles" of course, that started a train wreck in my brain. at what point did saying "please keep items clear of your feet" become too ambiguous that you had to add "ankles" in there too? what is there a 3" drop there? c'mon people. if something is clear of your ankles wouldn't it be clear of your feet? if i have my feet on top of something its still not clear of my ankles. it hurts to even try to make sense of it. it was a bumpy bumpy ride today, I am very glad I had everything clear of my ankles and my feet. i didn't mind ATL today. i wasn't in a big hurry to get anywhere so i just took my time and even avoided the moving sidewalk. i'm not particularly fond of the in-house subway system. as luck would have it my bag was the first one down the shoot! yeehaw. i head out to the rental car shuttle and it pulls away right as i walk up. i finally get on the shuttle and head to the emerald isle to pick out my car...decisions decisions. everything was an SUV. i couldn't see the purpose in getting such a big vehicle. then off in the corner the second car back, i spot a little Pontiac Vibe....with a sunroof ...cha ching! Only problem was you were supposed to take the cars in the front row and work back (so i waited - heh heh). it was the only one with a sunroof and i was willing to make a sacrifice-afterall, size doesn't matter right? I drove my little Vibe happily to my hotel (no - I stopped at Target first - that's another blog). Later, i was walking to dinner and noticed a big dodge ram truck parked next to my little Vibe. it was very close to it so i thought i should go over and investigate and sure enough. there was a ding in the passenger side door!!! argh. i took pictures with my cell phone and wrote down his plate . i wasn't going to make a big deal about but if the rental car place decides to make a big deal about it ill know who to refer them to.
