you don't know me

i’m having one of those days, you all. you know the kind. try as i may to get out of this funk it is nearly impossible. i wrote a HUGE ginormous blog about the crappy day i’m having but decided not to post it. instead, i will tell this funny story.
it’s baseball season again. yes, that’s right. which means for the next several months my husand will be AWOL tending to his umpiring duties. as a result, my son and i explore the park services and often end up at the baseball field ourselves so that my son can capture a glimpse of his Dad through chain link backstop before he has to head home for bedtime, lol. yesterday evening was opening day for us. i picked Bear up from daycare and we had a quick dinner. i didn’t tell him where we were going but he guessed pretty quickly when we turned down our usual route to the ball field. he was so excited. one problem, it was already pretty late and it was cold. he wasn’t going to get a chance to play on the playground very long and he certainly wasn’t going to have time to watch TV when we got home. so i felt it to be in my best interest to try and explain all of this to the 3 yr old. he didn’t understand. so i made it real simple:
Me:"We are going to go to the ballfield to see Daddy but we can’t stay very long"
Bear: "Then what?"
Me: "Then we have to go home and take a bath then go to bed"
Bear: "Then we can watch the Smurfs?"
Me: "No, it will be too late to watch TV when we get home"
Bear: "Well...I want to watch the Smurfs" (the crying ensues)
Me: "Bear, calm down. Do you want to just go home instead?"
Bear: (whimpering) "No"
Me: "OK then. Let’s go and have fun OK? But when it’s time to go..."
Bear: "...we go"
Me: "That’s right!"

Fast forward to it’s time to leave and he surprisingly goes w/out ANY fuss. I’m in shock. My plan was to let him watch the Smurfs when we got home then just give him a quick shower rather than a bath (because it’s quicker). Good plan, Mommy - everyone is happy. He watches the Smurfs, time for shower, no problems! Then it was time to get OUT of the shower. Chaos ensues. It was like trying to wrestle a greased pig (as the saying goes - not that i have ever partaken in the wrestling of greased pigs).

Me:"Stop it! Calm down and quit acting crazy in the shower you are going to fall and get hurt!"
Bear: (in a fit of rage) "YOU DON’T KNOWWW ME!"

(silence)

Wha?

(histerical laughter .both of us.me laughing at what he said. him laughing at me laughing at him)
where on earth would a 3 year old learn that little gem of a phrase? i’m sure the Smurfs don’t say that. i don’t say that. it was funny none the less.good times.
